The coding wizard Localhost has just released this amazing patch for the Spintires Editor. Map makers who intend to make super detailed maps you need this file 🙂
I finally found a DRM-friendly way to enable the Large Address Aware (LAA) option for Spintires’ editor.
This allows STE to use up to 4Gb of ram, which will “fix”* some errors that happen when doing terrain recreates on maps will a lot of objects.
Those errors are:
This fix is for the error D3DERR_OUTOFVIDEOMEMORY. The E_OUTOFMEMORY variant has another unclear cause.
Q-I followed the instructions in the readme but I still get error 3:xxxx, what’s wrong?
A-It shouldn’t be needed, but try to apply the patch on a fresh, clean install of the editor.
Q-Why do I get the first run message more than the first time?
A-You probably double clicked SpinTiresEditor.exe when steam was closed. When you do that the editor is actually ran twice: once to launch steam, and once when steam starts the editor. This messes up my pre- and post- launch operations so please don’t run the exe directly when steam isn’t started.
Q-The editor has a lot of other bugs, will you fix them too?
A-No, don’t bother asking.
Q-Are maps created with this patch compatible with the unpatched game?
Q-I’m using an older version of the editor that has a greater viewing range, can I use this patch on it?
A-Most likely (not tested). This patch should be able to enable LAA on any steam application (including other games) that loads d3dx9_43.dll right at startup and doesn’t have a picky DRM added ontop of steam.
