As to be expected, there is a lot of buzz around the new Spintires: Mudrunner Game. A lot of people are wondering about what could be so different and why they didn’t just simply update the original game. Well, I wanted to put this article together to explain exactly what is going on as a one stop resource for everything you need to know about the new Spintires 2! (aka Mudrunner)
We did put together an initial release post when we first heard about, which can be found here, but this article is way more detailed since we didn’t know much back then.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
There are a lot of burning questions people are asking and wondering about what will be included in the new game. So here are the most popular questions Compiled and answered in my own wording and perspective.
What will the price be for Spintires: Mudrunner both now and in future?
At the time of writing this post, you can pre order the game for US$26.99 (this is 10% off what will be the usual price of US$30) or US$14 (a further 50% off) for existing owners of the game. So if you are complaining about having to pay again, this is their answer to that, and a pretty good one if I do say so myself!
Where can I buy the game?
I imagine most of you will want the PC version via steam – http://store.steampowered.com/app/675010/Spintires_MudRunner/. For the Xbox One and PS4 versions, you will need to buy these through your local games shop, online (http://www.mudrunner-spintires.com/en/shop) or download onto console, just like you would with any other PS4/Xbox game.
When is the Expected Release date of Spintires 2?
You are going to have to give up your Halloween if you want to be one of the first to play. The game releases October 31st.
Where will mods be downloaded?
The Steam Workshop will be the place to go for any new mods to be downloaded.
Will you be able to create new mods?
Yes, at release there will be a full support for modding. This will include a ModConverter tool, which we know very little about, at this stage. We plan on bringing you some helpful tutorials for all those interested at trying their hand at creating mods for the new game!
Will PS4 and XBox versions be moddable?
No, unfortunately our console friends will not be able to download mods. However, there maybe DLC (Downloadable Content) for the consoles instead.
Why buy it when Spintires.nl works fine with the addition of countless Mods?
The new game improves on almost every aspect over the old game. The original Spintires will no longer receive updates as there is a new publisher.
Is there a cockpit or driver camera angle view?
No! I was very disappointed by this. I have always found it strange that a simulator like this does not have a driver’s view camera angle! Nonetheless, I am confident that this is something that will eventually come to the game, if only because so many people are crying out for it!
Is it worth buying?
Yes, I certainly think it is! Modders and map makers, like myself, will probably not continue supporting the old game. If you want new mods and the game to be kept up to date, you will need to buy the new Spintires: MudRunner.
Is OOVEE still the publisher?
No they are not, Focus is now the publisher for the game. Oovee is still the owner of the trademark Spintires as it states in the bio/copyright paragraph of the steam pre order page, which says:
© 2017 MudRunner: a Spintires game. Developed by Saber Interactive and published by Focus Home Interactive. Spintires is a registered trademark of Oovee™ Ltd © 2017 Oovee™ Ltd. MudRunner is a trademark of Saber Interactive Inc. All rights reserved.
Worth noting at this point that Saber Interactive are the new Developers, with Pavel Zagrebelnyy as the lead Dev. So this game is still very much his vision and will continue to be so.
Will there be more frequent updates to the game?
My prediction would be yes. My reasoning for this is because support will no longer be handled by Oovee (except maybe with their still active forum) and instead be handled by Focus. Focus has a few games under their belt so I can guess that the game will be a whole lot better supported.
What are we supposed to call the game?
This is a funny one because a lot of people are unsure whether to continue calling it Spintires, or something different. In my opinion, it should be Spintires 2, since it is the same game only with some enhanced mechanics and graphics. However, I really do think they are going to push for it to be named Mudrunner. I think this is mainly due to the “bad history“, but I also think it is a way to signify a fresh start and that .
What will the actual game look like?
Here is some official developer gameplay from gamescom 2017:
And of course the official trailer you have most likely seen before:

So Pavel is back working for the very company he quit to make this program… full circle?
And Oovee are all but out of the picture now…
Still think it’s rotten to have to pay for a game that’s essentially the same as the original, even missing some of the features we loved – like cabin view… It’s the same thing in green. Bit rude really… But I guess thats marketing ain’t it.
